Concrete Pole Manufacturing Process
Ever wondered how a partially prestressed concrete pole is made. USI’s spun poles are manufactured from high quality, durable, partially prestressed, and reinforced concrete.
Unlike conventional cast poles, Prestressed Spun Concrete Poles are centrifugally cast. This process involves spinning the poles at a very high rpm, which produces poles with the highest density and strength to weight ratio of any concrete available

New Production Facility – Exposed Finished
We've expanded our plant and have added an extra 3500sf of production space. This new production facility specializes in Exposed Finished concrete.
Exposed Finished process - This surface finish is a two-stage process. Initially the pole form is coated with a "surface retarder", which delays the hardening of the thin outer layer of the concrete. After the pole is cured, the pole surface is pressure washed with water to expose the aggregate. This finish is a rough finish, with large portions of the aggregate showing. No sealers are typically applied to this pole.

Utility Products – E53-24 Square Pole Base
We've added another square base to our expanding line of pole bases. All our pole bases are engineered and are manufactured in a controlled environment. USI Model # E53-24, can be used as a grade level pole base, or an above grade parking lot base.
Dimension are: 2600mm high x 600mm x 600mm and all corners are chamfered.

OPSD Barrier - Type X Connection Highway Barrier
USI is proud to introduce another highway barrier. The Type X is 9144mm (30 feet) long and has been approved by MTO (Ministry Transportation of Ontario) for all highway use. It is manufactured according to: MTOD#911.190. It is identified as USI model #E400X.

Lighting Bollards Designs
USI is pleased to announce the addition of four new lighting bollard designs.
BHA – Hampton (Round) Lighting Bollard
BMA – Madison (Octagonal) Lighting Bollard
BST – Stratford (Tiered Octagonal) Lighting Bollard
BWA – Washington (Fluted) Lighting Bollard
These are designed to be direct buried, which is simple and cost effective, but are also available as a base mounted option. They’re available in all our colours and finishes.

USI DWG#E42 is a heavily reinforced decorative security barrier. Its dimensions are: 1100mm (44") high x 4000mm (13') long. This unit is designed for locations that require additional protection such as: Embassies, Government Buildings, Commercial Plazas, and Financial Institutions.

E59 Decorative Pole Base
Our E59 Octagonal pole base is manufactured with the same technology as our concrete poles, which is vibraspun. The spinning process makes the concrete very dense and strong. Plus, the hollow raceway gives the installer flexibility for wiring and location.

Type T Connection Highway Barrier
USI is proud to introduce another highway barrier. The T-LOC has been approved by MTO (Ministry Transportation of Ontario) and has successfully been crash tested to the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Report 350 Test Level 3. It's available in two lengths, 4 and 6 meter sections, and are manufactured according to MTOD#911.180, USI model #E44(4) and MTOD#911.181, USI model #E44(6).

Type M Connection Highway Barrier
USI is expanding its line of highway barriers to include a new design from the MTO. (Ministry Transportation of Ontario) It's manufactured according to MTOD#911.160. The connection is a pin and loop system and the units can be pinned into place. It will be known as USI model #E43.

NEW Elliptical Pole Base (E54)
In July of this year we've added to our ever growing list of prefab precast pole bases, model E54 is unique as it encompasses the following features: elliptical cross section - which allows it to be placed on tight sidewalks, decorative etched top section – which allows the unit to be exposed 6" to 12" above grade and protects the pole from snow plough damage. New Concrete Pole Storage Facility
USI grows with a new Storage Facility for concrete poles. This new project began in the fall of 2007 and officially opened on March 28, 2008. Its features include - two (2) new state of the art overhead cranes, covered roof, and over 25,000sf of pole storage capacity. This new area will allow us to store more concrete poles, increase production levels, and decrease delivery times.
